Deputy Director of Horticulture under Directorate of Horticulture

       The Deptt. came into existence during May, 1992. Directorate of Horticulture comes from Deptt of Agriculture in April, 1997 and came to known as Deptt. of FPI & Horticulture. A separate Directorate of FPI was formed in 1998 and become fully functional during 2009 whereas directorate of Horticulture working in full swing from 2007.

      The vision of Directorate of Horticulture under this Deptt. is to modernize the horticulture scenario through plantation of quality planting material, micropropagated planting material adoption of organic farming practices, creation of water resources, protected cultivation methods dry land horticulture, etc.  

        In Birbhum District the infrastructure of the Directorate is very much limited and only a district level office with 3 officers and very limited support staff is looking after all the developmental schemes provide service to the farming community of Birbhum

1.      National Horticulture Mission under Mission for Integrated Development on Horticulture (MIDH):

a.      Production of planting material e.g. Nursery, Tissue Culture Lab etc.

b.      Area expansion of fruit plants like Mango, Guava, Lime, Lemon and Sweet orange, papaya and tissue culture banana

c.       Area expansion of flowers and spices.

d.      Organic cultivation practices e.g. Vermicomposting

e.       Creation of water resource for irrigation viz. Community Tank, Dug well/pond

f.        Farm mechanization through power tiller/ tractor etc.

g.      Post harvest technology like low cost onion storage structure, multipurpose cold storage unit, etc

2.      Rastriya Krishi Vikash Yojna: Development of Infrastructure of horticulture sector

3.      Area expansion of Kharif Onion and Rabi Onion

4.      Expansion in area under Drip and Sprinkler irrigation
