Evolution to Municipality:

         Sainthia, an old village trade centre, a place of Pilgrimage, a ‘ganja’ has been emerged into a municipal town in the year 1987.

         Urbanization of this area had got momentum in recent past when construction work of Sahebgonj loop line and over bridge on Moyurakshi River started. This mega work had fetched various people from different corners of this country to assemble and settle here. With the effort of the inhabitants of this urban locality Sainthia has been turned into a commercial hub of the district. Now it is growing rapidly through all the development and service avenues to be a model municipality by taking good care of it’s inhabitants and the nature surrounding it.

Administrative Boundaries :

          The municipal town of Sainthia is located within the subdivision of Suri in the district of Birbhum. Sainthia Municipality has an area of 10 square kilometres and a population of 44500 by the last census (2011). It is located approximately 200 kilometres away from Kolkata.

Transport & Communication :

          This town is 200 Kms away from Kolkata and 20 Kms away from Suri, head quarter town of Birbhum District. The town has well connected transport facilities with Broad Gauge Railways line to North Bengal main line Section (mainly known as Sahebgonj loop line) of Eastern Railways. Apart from this railway connection, this town also enjoys good linkage by road serving as its artery.

Economy base:

          The economy of Sainthia Municipal area being the central place of Birbhum district and having good railway communication is based on Agricultural products and its allied business. Rice mill, mastered oil mill, bran oil mill, fried rice mill, galvanized wire product unit and such others business units are running here. The hinterland of business of Sainthia is spreading up to district of Jharkhand in the west and Kandi of Murshidabad district in the east
