Executive Engineer, Birbhum Division P.H.E. Dte.

           PHE Department is mainly responsible for supplying drinking water in rural areas by sinking Tube Wells and implementing Piped Water Supply Schemes. Another important activity of PHED is water quality monitoring and surveillance through well established water testing laboratories managed by PHED and NGOs.

At present there are total 64 nos. commissioned Piped Water Supply Schemes (PWSS); out of which 40 nos. PWSS are maintained by PHED and 24nos.  PWSS are maintained by Panchayat Samity/ Gram Panchayat/ Beneficiaries.

Besides above 3nos. Municipality PWSS (One full and two partial) and 4 nos. Hospital W/S Schemes are maintained by PHED in the District of Birbhum..

Safe drinking water is supplied for the people in natural calamities, like flood or drought.

Number of functional tube well in the district is 33680.

Rural population Coverage by the commissioned  PWSS is 34.89%.

8.13% rural population will be covered by the ongoing PWSS and total population coverage after completion of ongoing PWSS will be 43.02%.

The brief activities of this Division are as follows :-

1) Study of Techno Economical feasibility of new proposed schemes received from the beneficiaries.
2) Survey and preparation of new schemes
3) Installation, commissioning and handing over of new schemes to the beneficiaries.
4) Maintenance and repairing of existing Government owned & operated RLI Schemes.
