Brief Description of Activities
The Lead bank Scheme was introduced by Reserve bank of India in 1969 which aims at coordinating the activities of banks and other Departmental Agencies through various fora in order to achieve the objective of enhancing the flow of bank finance to priority sector and other sector and to promote bank’s role in overall development of rural sector. The responsibility of Lead bank Scheme is assigned to a particular bank of the district which is mentioned as Lead bank and in Birbhum it has been assigned to UCO BANK. The Lead bank is to assume the leadership role for coordinating the efforts of all the Credit Institutions operating in the District and the Government Departments.
To have effective coordination and monitoring, Lead District Manager , the Head of the Lead Bank Scheme holding meetings at Block level named as BLBC (Block Level banker’s Committee) meeting, at District level DCC (District Consultative Committee) meeting & DLRC (District Level Review Committee) meeting under the Chairmanship of District Magistrate.
The LDM in collaboration with NABARD is preparing Potential Linked Credit Plan keeping in mind the need of the District for all round development and its implementation through credit flow to the projected sectors.
Lead Bank scheme directs for inclusive growth and financial inclusion and accordingly Bank branches are exclusively focused on SHG-bank leakage, extending credit to farming community through Kisan Credit Card and undertake schemes under MSME. Side by side bankers are involved in Financial Literacy for sustainable growth of the rural masses.
For providing “Credit Plus” activities like skill and capacity building for the rural masses, Financial Literacy Centers and RSETI are effectively working in the District.
