District Horticulture Office, Birbhum under Directorate of Horticulture

      The vision of Directorate of Horticulture under the Department of Food Processing Industries and Horticulture, West Bengal is to modernize the horticulture scenario through plantation of quality planting material, micro-propagated planting material adoption of organic farming practices, creation of water resources, protected cultivation methods dry land horticulture, etc.

Schemes Offered by the Department:

 National Horticulture Mission under Mission for Integrated Development on Horticulture (MIDH): Various works taken up in the scheme are:
Production of planting material e.g. Nursery, Tissue Culture Lab etc.
Area expansion of fruit plants like Mango, Guava, Lime, Lemon and Sweet orange, papaya and tissue culture   banana.
         Area expansion of flowers and spices.
         Organic cultivation practices e.g. Vermi composting
         Creation of water resource for irrigation viz. Community Tank, Dug well/pond
         Farm mechanization through power tiller/ tractor etc.
         Post harvest technology like low cost onion storage structure, multipurpose cold storage unit, etc.

 Rastriya Krishi Vikash Yojna: Development of Infrastructure of horticulture sector like development of FPO’s, Bee Keeping, Area Expansion of fruits, Onion Storage Structures, etc.

 State Budget Schemes: Area expansion of Kharif Onion and Rabi Onion etc.

Developmental activities:

 Providing assistance for production of planting material (nursery)
 Provide assistance for development of orchards of mango, guava, citrus in convergence with MGNREGA
 Provide assistance for cultivation of flowers, spices, rabi and kharif onion
 Assistance for erection of shade net, green house, and cultivation of high value crops under these protected structure.
Training of farmer, seminar, exposure visit of farmers etc. for introduction of newest technology in horticulture field
