Introduction

Consequent upon the merger of the erstwhile Department of Panchayats and Department of Rural Development into a single Department of Panchayats and Rural Development the post of District Panchayat Officer Re-designated as District Panchayat & Rural Development Officer (DP& RDO).

Major activities

General supervision over administrative, financial functions of Panchayat Samitis and Gram Panchayats within the district and issue suitable directions there to.
Disbursement of fund to the 3-tier Panchayats and RD, RWP, Panchayat & Rural Housing Set up at Sub-Divisional Headquarters and Block Headquarters।
Initiate actions and monitor different matters relating to appointment, transfer, etc. of employees of Gram Panchayats and of Panchayat Samitis against regular vacancies and assist the respective Appointing authorities and the respective controlling officers of all staff in all administrative matters concerning these posts.
Establishment matters of all officers arid staff under the administrative control of the Panchayat and Rural Development Department (RD, RWP, Panchayat & Rural Housing Set up) posted at , Sub-Divisional Headquarters and Block Headquarters and assist the respective Appointing authorities and the respective controlling officers of all such officers and staff in all administrative matters concerning these posts.
Monitor the progress of the audit of accounts of the Panchayat Samitis and Gram Panchayats.
Assist the District Magistrate and the District Panchayat Election Officer, in conduct of elections to the 3 tier Panchayats and constitution of Panchayat bodies.
Monitor Social security schemes NSAP, PROFLAL & AABY at the Panchayat Samiti and Gram Panchayat level.
Conduct training programs for the Panchayat functionaries and employees of PRI bodies.
Exercise, perform or discharge Powers, functions and duties as have been conferred or entrusted upon the District Panchayat and Rural Development Officer.

Monitor ISGP Project.
Any other functions as may be entrusted from time to time by the District Magistrate, the Director, Panchayat and Rural Development or the State Government, Panchayat and Rural Development Department.
