District Planning & Development Section

Brief Description

Development & Planning Section is one of the important Section under the control of the District Magistrate, Birbhum. All Developmental matters dealt with this Section.

All development related schemes/Projects under MPLADS, BEUP, etc. are implemented by this department through the implementing/executing agencies.

Gitanjali Housing Scheme, PUP, JAP, various Tourism Projects, and Industry related matters, RSVY Misc., Science and Technology, ASIDE Projects are also implemented by this Section. Besides, that any other development work as an when assigned by the District Authority are also dealt with by this Section.

MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT LOCAL AREA DEVELOPMENT SCHEME (MPLADS)

Under this Scheme each Member of the Parliament is provided a sum of 5 crore every financial year for their parliamentary constituencies to formulate developmental schemes for their constituencies as per locally felt needs for creation of durable assets for public benefit and service.

There are two Lok Sabha Constituency in the Birbhum District.
41 Bolpur (SC) Parliamentary Constituency
42 Birbhum Parliamentary Constituency

Bidhayak Elaka Unnayan Prakalpa (BEUP):

The funds may also be used for provision of service support facilities and community benefits for the socio economic benefits of the constituency.
The MLAs usually recommend development schemes for their constituencies in conformity with the overall priority fixed for the district.
The Department is always keen to take every step to gear up the district machinery for quick implementation of BEUP scheme.

There are 11 Assembly Constituencies in the Birbhum District.

ABOUT DISTRICT SPATIAL DATA CENTRE (DSDC)

DISTRICT SPATIAL DATA CENTRE (DSDC) was conceived to facilitate drawing up development strategies that are sustainable, actionable, area -specific where local needs and priorities are taken into account. Centre comes under the administrative control of Department of Planning & Statistics, Government of West Bengal. Centre comprises of two personnel, namely, Centre-in-Charge (CIC) and Centre-Assistant (CA).

The rationale of setting up of DSDC Centre are as follows:
Development of district level resource database on Natural Resources and other
allied sectors based on the concepts of GIS to support Micro Level Planning (MLP).
Provide software support for data management, modelling and operation research.
Promote Research & Development in Spatial Data Management Technology.
Training of scientist & potential users.
Forge linkage with the users at different levels, documentation and dissemination of the DSDC methodology.
