Excise

The Excise Department, Birbhum, under the Finance Department, Government of West Bengal, is concerned mainly with the regulation of the manufacture, supply distribution and sale of liquor and other intoxicant in the Birbhum District. This Department also do the preventive activity against the illicit liquor and NDPS Cases throughout the Birbhum District. The collection of Excise Duty and fees is also under this department.

There is one Country Spirit Bottling Plant namely Sarajit Kumar Dey Country Spirit Bottling Plant at Kuchuighata Ahmedpur. This activity is under the control of the D.E.C in-charge, Bottling plant.

Major Activities

Granting and regulating licenses for the manufacture, wholesale and retail sale of liquor.

Committed to Operating mechanisms for the collection of state excise duty on liquor, fees and other levies charged and imposed by the Govt. on the manufacture, distribution and sale of liquor.

Carrying out enforcement activities against the illegal manufacture, distribution and sale of liquor and liquor on which requisite state excise duty or fees have not been realized.

Carrying out enforcement activities against the illegal manufacture, distribution, sale and possession.
